AZUSA, Los Angeles County — October 25, 2026. Residents looking for books, library computers, literacy programs or passport services should know that Azusa City Library is operating from a temporary location at 340 W. Fifth Street, on the former Slauson Middle School campus. The main library building is undergoing a renovation, according to the city’s official relocation guide.
Temporary library hours
The city currently lists the following public library hours: Monday–Wednesday, 10 a.m.–7 p.m.; Thursday, 10 a.m.–6 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, noon–5 p.m. The location is closed on holidays. Confirm hours before traveling during construction or special events. The library’s information number is (626) 812-5232.
Which services remain available?
According to the city’s temporary location page, readers can still access library programs, reference services, e-books and downloadable resources, adult literacy support, computers, and the library’s Neighborhood Connections information services. Some programs take place off-site. Passport acceptance and notary services are also listed, but residents should call ahead because those services may require separate hours or an appointment.
The city cautions that seating and access to physical collections are limited at the temporary site. Its borrowing guide states that most returns can be placed in the book drop at 340 W. Fifth Street, but California State Parks passes and circulating kits must be returned at the customer-service counter during operating hours.
What’s being renovated?
Azusa describes the project as a $9,746,550 modernization, funded through state grant support and local funds. Planned improvements include seismic and safety upgrades, study rooms, expanded digital access, more efficient building systems, updated restrooms and redesigned space. The city’s published description is a project plan; it does not establish that any particular improvement has been completed.
Getting a library card
The official library-card guide explains that adults may apply for a free library card using an application, valid identification and recent proof of their mailing address. A parent or guardian must sign for children under 18. The city also offers temporary and virtual-card options, with different borrowing rights. Call the library to verify current requirements before visiting.
